The Most Popular Recipes of 2023 is a delicious bunch of recipes, some of which, thanks to Pinterest are now heinstirred classics. A few have been around for years and I’m happy to see they still get made regularly by readers.
I hope you will enjoy The Most Popular Recipes of 2023 list and be tempted to make one or two or even remake a favourite. And as always, share your pics with me on Instagram when you’ve made it.
The most popular recipe of 2023 is Claudia Roden’s Turkish Yoghurt Cake a no faff cheesecake that is incredibly quick and easy to whip up using just six ingredients. No wonder it has been a huge hit on my blog since I published it in 2022. Serve it as is or with some fresh berries.
This Sri Lankan Baked Chicken has been a hit on Pinterest, with loads of traffic every day and the comments from people who have made it so complimentary. This one is a winner, best eaten with your hands and the delicious sauce scooped up with warm flatbreads.
Remember the pandemic? And the dalgona coffee that everyone was making while stuck at home? I turned it into a quick and delicious cheesecake back in 2020. A no bake cheesecake served as individual portions in a glass or cup you can not go wrong with this Dalgona Coffee Cheesecake
Number 4 is another cheesecake, this time 100% South African with every South African’s favourite chocolate, a peppermint crisp. The Peppermint Crisp Cheesecake is made in the pressure cooker, allowing for the silkiest texture. A number of readers have asked if they can make it in an oven, the recipe has not been tested for the oven so my suggestion is you make a recipe written for the oven and then go wild with the peppermint crisp topping.
Labneh is such a versatile ingredient and I have many labneh recipes here on the blog and they all refer to this basic recipe of How to make Labneh. If you have never made your own labneh I urge you to try it.
And just behind How To Make Labneh is a recipe using labneh from Ottolenghi himself, Ottolenghi’s Lemon Labneh Posset. Lemony, silky smooth with a delicious tang from the labneh.
The internet still loves Tannie Maria’s Muesli Buttermilk Rusks and I love seeing these rusks baked all over the world, not just in South Africa. These rusks are on the sweet side so you can easily reduce the sugar by about 50g – 75g as the muesli will have added sugar too.
I am amazed that after almost 6 years this Lemon Ricotta Cake with Toasted Pistachio Frosting is still so popular. But make no mistake, it is a fantastic cake recipe with or without the decadent frosting and worth adding to your baking repertoire.
I posted this recipe for Peppermint Crisp Biscuit Cake only a few months ago and it got a lot of attention since then, enough to end up as the 8th most popular recipe. And it is easy to see why, who does not love a biscuit cake and combining it with South Africa’s favourite chocolate makes for a delicious treat.
I finally made it to Dishoom in London in 2023 and had to order the Masala Prawns as I had only cooked it from Dishoom’s cookbook. The real thing is delicious, almost as good as mine… This is the ultimate summer dish in my view, marinate and cook them on the barbecue. Delish!
Last but not least is another Peppermint Crisp recipe, my famous Peppermint Crisp Ice Cream Cake I developed for the Sunday Times Food Weekly back in 2015. I have made this more than a few times since then and I still love it as much as the first time. And I am sure you will too!
Wishing you a delicious 2024. I hope it is a healthy and above all, a kind year in all respects.
