The festive holiday season is around the corner, matric exams are almost done and this Frozen Limoncello Spritz is the first of a number of festive recipes I will post in the next few weeks.
Loosely based on the fabulous Italian cocktail, the fizzy and lemony Sgroppino, that I published before, my Frozen Limoncello Spritz is made with limoncello, lemon sorbet and any sparkling wine of your choice. You can use prosecco to keep it Italian or if you are from South Africa use one of the many fantastic sparkling wines and MCC’s we have.
While the Sgroppino is made with prosecco, lemon sorbet and vodka this is an even easier version where you don’t mix and whip the ingredients but rather “layer” them. First the limoncello, then a scoop of lemon sorbet followed by a generous top up of sparkling wine (up to however big your glass may be). You could make your own lemon sorbet – find the recipe here – or buy a tub and keep it on hand in the freezer. You can mix up the basic Frozen Limoncello Spritz recipe with another fruit flavoured sorbet such as litchi, mango or any berries to add your own personal stamp. Still use the limoncello for a citrus kick or use a splash of gin or vodka instead.
I hope you enjoy this recipe for Frozen Limoncello Spritz. Once you’ve made the recipe, please share it with me by tagging and following @heinstirred on Instagram. It is always a treat to see the recipes made and enjoyed.
