We have had such interest in the Food Photography Workshops that I am pleased to confirm that the next workshop will be on the 27th of September 2015 in collaboration with fellow FoodPhoto photographer Francois Pistorius and well known stylist Isabella Niehaus.

Francois and I have just returned from France where we photographed a new cookbook due for release at the end of the year and it was through working with Isabella that the opportunity crossed our paths, so it seems logical for the three of us to join forces and share our knowledge and how we do things.

We will be hosting the workshop on Sunday the 27th of June at Isabella’s beautiful “home on the dune” in Langebaan. The home provides the perfect creative setting with ample surfaces, textures and props on hand for us all to play with.

Earl Grey Ice Cream Sandwich

The main idea for the workshop is for it to be a creative space to play and practise so we will attempt the keep the theory and talking to an absolute minimum and spend most of the day styling and taking photographs. We need a minimum of 5 participants and will only be able to have a maximum of 8 participants for the day. This will allow that each person have their own workstation. Isabella will also cook one of her famous west coast lunches to make sure we are all well taken care of.

Passion Fruit Semifreddo

We will start the day at 9am with a brief chat by each of us on the following subjects:
Light: Understanding and how to read light
Styling: Food styling basics and trends
Composition: How to approach a photograph

We then move on to a practical styling and photography session with a few savoury dishes
After lunch is another practical styling and photography session with sweet dishes. I would love to do a bit of “food porn” – think pouring custard and icing snow storms

Apricot Clafoutis

The workshop is not just for people with DSLR cameras. Bring the camera you are using and we will work with it. If it has manual settings even better! As well as your laptop if you are using editing software and would like to look at your photos during the day.

The cost of the workshop is R2500 for the day. Please send a mail to heinstirred at gmail dot com to book and I will reply with all the necessary details.

We are looking forward to this and hope to see you there!
