We were totally spoilt yesterday in Franschhoek as part of the Festive Franschhoek celebration currently in the village.
From 10 to 16 December the town will come alive with festive cheer when wine farms, restaurants, retail stores and accommodation establishments pull out the stops.
Dine at leisure, enjoy late night shopping and sample superb wines in this beautiful town, far away from the hustle and bustle of the silly season. Adding extra sparkle to the festive season Main Road is lit up at night with some extra twinkling ‘stars’ to guide the way.
Participating retail establishments, amongst others, include Peacock Blue, Indian Summer, Masquerade Antiques & Things and Troll Beads. Stock up on wines for the festive season from Anthonij Rupert Wyne, La Motte, Boekenhoutskloof and Grande Provence amongst others. Not forgetting that Franschhoek is regarded as South Africa’s culinary capital a visit to one of the village’s fine dining restaurants is must on your to do list during this week.
Our first stop was Leopard’s Leap for a demo and a cook off where we recreated our delicious starter of Cured Franschhoek Trout, Muscat Beetroot, Avocado and Ricotta. We were then treated to a truly festive lunch by Chef Pieter and his team consisting of Roasted Saddle of Lamb, served with saffron potatoes and grilled artichokes and a salad of Butternut, Ginger and Coriander. Dessert was a delicious Rhubarb Frangipane with Meringue and Macerated Strawberries.
Some early evening shopping on Main Road followed and I managed to easily return with a heavy bag filled with glassware, styling props, rose and hibiscus syrups and of course some bubbly.
