I attended the launch of Cluver & Jack Cider in the Elgin Valley on Thursday. A hand crafted premium cider made by well known wine personalities Paul Cluver and Bruce Jack. The cider is made from pure apple juice grown in Elgin and the finished product is a pure, crisp and refreshing drink that is the perfect summer drink.
The launch was a feast for the senses created by Caro de Waal of Eat Design. Caro is the queen of sensory & experiential eating and her attention to detail and flair for quirky surprises never disappoints.
Bertus Basson from Overture was behind the barbecue pairing flavours with the cider. Barbecued asparagus, pulled pork and his mother’s apple pie all prepared on the braai made for a perfect day under the massive trees of the Cluver amphitheatre.
The grand finale was a “smoking” apple sorbet which had us all cheering with delight!
Bruce and Paul plan to be at the forefront of the craft cider revolution in South Africa and I for one can not wait to see what they bring to the market next.
